Is wowza really required for hotlink stream protection

Nimesh 2017-04-06 13:35:12 UTC in WMSPanel functionality

Hi,We are working on authentication and we had already looked in IP authentication, User agent, group referer for deny anonymous users to download VOD stream. After all above scenario didn't helped so we thought about URL authentication using wmsAuthSign token. We found c# class which is returning m3u8 url appending with wmsAuthSign signature but still it allow anonymous user to download VOD stream,
is wowza streaming server really required for VOD streaming restriction ?
