Separate installation of ffmpeg breaks srt connection from OBS to Nimble server

Jonathan 2021-03-22 06:54:25 UTC in Nimble Streamer

When I install ffmpeg on an Ubuntu 18.04 server where the Nimble server is already installed, a previously working OBS-Nimble connection fails. The Nimble log shows:

E: srt_bind for 0.0.0.0:2020 failed, s=499347426: Connection setup failure: unable to create/configure SRT socket: Address already in use
E: failed to bind srt socket 0.0.0.0:2020

Tried changing port to 4020, but get the same error. (As far as I can see ffmpeg does not use these ports as standard.)

After uninstalling ffmpeg the issue is resolved.

Is there a way for Nimble and ffmpeg to co-exist on the server?

Hello Jonathan,

Nimble does not use "system" or "default" FFmpeg libraries so installing/uninstalling those should not affect Nimble, but if it failed to bind 2020 after that may be there was some other process using port 2020?

ffmpeg from the standard repository doesn't have srt enabled at all. Nimble use srt with custom library names.
I don't exclude possibility of such a collision completely, but it's almost impossible. Please file a ticket via https://wmspanel.com/help if you want to narrow this problem down as sensitive account/server-related information may be required

Thank you both. I will file a ticket.

Just to restate: the problem seems to be directly related to whether or not ffmpeg is installed. Without it everything is okay, but with it installed the connection problem arises.

Just in case anyone else ends up here, turned out to be an underpowered server. Issue resolved :)
