Is it possible to output in RTMP protocol when doing VOD streaming?

TSPark 2021-07-07 01:07:17 UTC in Nimble Streamer

Hi

I use FFMPEG Name Pipe to live streaming my encoded video.

The Allication setting is using the RTMP protocol and is working well.

However, this service has a problem that I have to continue encoding and service with the Nimble server.

I would like to provide Live Streaming service of pre-saved VOD files without real-time encoding.

So I want to change only the input from Live Streaming to VOD Streaming (with the settings kept)

is this possible?

If possible, can VOD streaming files use formats other than MP4 files? For example, AVC files or HEVC files.

Thanks for your reply

Hello, TSPark.

Sure, you can stream videos on demand using Nimble Streamer.
Please find a list of VOD features of the Nimble Streamer on the following documentation page:
https://wmspanel.com/nimble/vod_streaming

The MP4 is a container format and can contain AVC(H. 264) or HEVC(H. 265) codecs. Nimble can serve such files, but it depends on a device and video player support. (e.g. if HEVC decoding is supported)

Thank you.

Thanks for your kind reply Mr. Sergei
Can I ask you one more question

Is RTMP protocol also available as output of VOD?
For example "rtmp://localhost:1935/vod_test.mp4/~~"
Is it possible to get an output address in RTMP format like this?

For now, it seems that VOD output is only available in HLS or DASH (m3u8) format. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how Progressive Download works.

The reason we want the RTMP protocol output is that the streaming receiver parses the protocol and does something.

Thanks for your reply

Hello, TSPark.

That's correct, VOD transmuxing into RTMP is not supported.

Thank you.
