How does ABR streams actually work in Nimble

Allen 2014-06-04 00:10:09 UTC in Nimble Streamer

IS Nimble automatically providing an adaptive stream, so even though the fixed stream could be at 1Mbps, clients who only connect at 700kbps can watch it using adaptive streams?

Will adaptive streams be able to be linked via CDN?

Hello Allen,

At the moment ABR HLS via Nimble Streamer works as described here: http://blog.wmspanel.com/2014/04/mixing-video-audio-abr-hls.html

Nimble can take UPD MPEG-TS streams and mix them into ABR stream, according to the settings which you set up in WMSPanel. If your MPEG-TS channel has 1Mbps and 700kbps streams, you may mix them into single ABR stream.

As for CDN, if you CDN allows pulling HLS fron origin, then Nimble will work perfectly for you.

Good afternoon,

How can I test to confirm that ABR is working on my server?

Hello.
Please consider starting a new thread, for a new question next time.

As for the question check the contents of playlist.m3u8 or simply use any video player with ABR support (e.g. from player.wmspanel.com) and try switching renditions.
