Failover stream using pushed streams , not pull by request

Paul 2019-07-03 14:24:02 UTC in Nimble Streamer

I used to use live pull by request, that has option for stream source "Fallback URLs".
My streams available in 3 qualities but only pulled whatever quality the viewer had selected with buttons on web page.

Now I am pushing all channels (in 3 qualities) from origin to edge server and creating ABR streams from these 3 qualities on edge.

Please can you suggest a solution for fallback URLs on my edge server using ABR?

For restreaming you can only start streaming from backup server if primary source would fail by using Dispersa ( https://wmspanel.com/monitoring ) and WMSPanel API, but it would require some programming to configure it .
Alternatively, instead of restreaming over RTMP/RTSP, you can setup restreaming routes on edge servers ( https://blog.wmspanel.com/2013/04/nimble-streamer-mapping-setup-and-usage.html ) - in this case you must setup ABR on origin, and edges will pull HLS from origin by request.

Thanks for the reply.

With restreaming ABR, does edge pull each bitrate on request depending on bandwidth? So the time to switch would be slightly higher for viewer far away (hopefully not noticeable)?
