Q: I need to use Wowza Streaming Engine as a transcoding origin and Nimble Streamer as an edge server which would provide HLS and MPEG-DASH with hotlink protection.

Here are the basic steps:

1. Set up Wowza to publish RTMP to Nimble Streamer.
It's pretty easy, check this article for details: http://blog.wmspanel.com/2014/08/rtmp-publish-wowza-nimble-hls-transmux.html
You may use WMSPanel as a web UI for changing Wowza application parameter.

2. Set up Nimble to accept RTMP and perform transmuxing to HLS and DASH
WMSPanel allows easily set this up via web UI. Read this article for details:
http://blog.wmspanel.com/2014/12/mpeg-dash-abr-rtmp-nimble-streamer.html
It covers both HLS and MPEG-DASH.

3. Use WMSAuth hotlink protection feature set for protecting streams. This will require to change our web site applications to add special signature to media URL. Read this article for details: http://blog.wmspanel.com/2013/11/nimble-streamer-protect-hotlinking-domain-lock.html
If you have any problems with that, please refer to this FAQ: https://wmspanel.com/paywall/faq it has the first question showing step-by-step debugging process.
