I think the FreBSD is the best OS.
can the nimble transcoder install on it ?

Unfortunaltey, FreeBSD is not supported, and we don't have plans to support it.
As far as I know, it have some Linux compatibility components, so you may try to install rpm package (from CentOS 6, for example - http://nimblestreamer.com/centos/6/x86_64/ ) , but we can't guarantee it would work.
