Use Hot Swap without transcoding

tvan 2022-07-11 20:32:42 UTC in WMSPanel functionality

I am looking to take primary and backup SRT feeds and convert them to a single UDP output, with automated failover between the two source SRT streams. It looks like the Hot Swap functionality can do the first part, but it is not clear to me if it can pass the output to UDP. I also would not want it transcoded so it would need to use a passthru mode. Is this possible?

Hello.
You can pass a hot-swapped stream to UDP, just specify its application/stream name in the UDP Streaming tab.

If you intend using Hot-Swap, you have to transcode the streams, overwise, seamless stream cannot be produced. We have no pass-through mode for such a scenario, unfortunately.

Thank you.

There's one more option for failover, though our documentation states transcoding is recommended even for this case, it is not mandatory.

You can use Server's playlist with two live streams, with one specified as DefaultStream. The DefaultStream will be used as fallback stream, and the second defined in a playlist stream will be main.
Please find a technical description of Server Playlist functionality, on the following page:
