SCTE-35 Suggestions

Hey there,

Wanted to make a couple of suggestions for SCTE-35 cues.

1) Currently SCTE-35 IN/OUT cues need to be sent per rendition. Would be nice if you could do this for ABR streams, where it would insert the cues into each rendition automatically. This way if we change our transcoding profiles for the ABR streams (add or remove renditions) we don't need to do anything to change SCTE-35 behaviors in our playout automation system.

2) Presently you cannot send SCTE-35 cues to DVR streams. Our streams are all live HLS with 2-hour DVR lookback. Would be very helpful to us to be able to send SCTE-35 cues to the DVR endpoint, where they would be inserted into each rendition contained in the DVRs' ABR streams.

Thanks!

Hi,

1. You can enable this using scte35_forwarding_enabled = true parameter as described here
https://blog.wmspanel.com/2019/04/scte35-markers-passthrough.html

2. We do not plan adding SCTE-35 into DVR at the moment but thanks for suggestion.

Ah, gotcha. I was inserting into the transcoder outputs instead of the outgoing stream that feeds into the transcoder scenario.

Is there a technical hurdle to inserting the SCTE markers into the DVR streams? It seems like if it's passed through via forwarding to the ABR renditions, it could theoretically carry right into the DVR streams without too much work?

Anyhow, hopefully you'll take that under consideration...would be extremely helpful to us.

Thanks!

Thanks for DVR suggestion, we've put it into our wishlist. But we don'e have any ETA especially for the nearby future.
