Publish RTSP with Auth

Marcello 2021-06-18 13:38:51 UTC in Nimble Streamer

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to publish an RTSP livestream and make it accessible only though login/password.

In VLC if I would like to watch the stream, I would do
rtsp://user:password@127.0.0.1:554/live/protected

Hello, Marcello.

Nimble does not support protecting RTSP streams with passwords (login/password can only be used to protect publishing to Nimble but not playback from Nimble).

If you'd like to protect playback from Nimble you can e.g. use hotlinking (https://blog.wmspanel.com/2013/11/nimble-streamer-protect-hotlinking-domain-lock.html) or PPV (https://wmspanel.com/nimble/pay_per_view) allowing only clients knowing WMSAuth password to pull stream(s), this requires adding wmsAuthSign parameter to URL.

Thank you

I see, I will give it a try with hot-linking protection. If I can, may I request you guys to put this feature (securing RTSP stream with user/password) authentication in the software roadmap? Thanks a lot.

Marcello,
we have no plans for implementing such a feature, unfortunately.

Thank you.
