Lack of Support for RHEL-Compatible Distributions

Marius D. 2023-05-03 10:35:41 UTC in Other

There are any plans to support Nimble Streamer on RHEL-compatible distributions, such as Rocky Linux 9 and Alma Linux 9? Not everyone is using Debian-based distributions. Thank you.

Hello Marius,

Did you try to install Nimble package for CentOS 7 on Rocky Linux or Alma Linux, were there any errors?

Thank you.

No joy! See bellow:

$ sudo yum install nimble
Last metadata expiration check: 0:00:04 ago on Thu 04 May 2023 02:32:57 PM EEST.
Problem: cannot install the best candidate for the job
- nothing provides needed by nimble-4.0.0-5.el7.x86_64
(try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use not only best candidate packages)

$ uname -a
Linux change-me 5.14.0-162.23.1.el9_1.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Apr 11 19:09:37 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ cat /etc/os-release

What is the version of openssl library you have installed on the server? Please check it using "rpm -qi openssl" command.

It should be possible to fix libzip dependency installing libzip package for CentOS 7, but if openssl 3 is used on Rocky Linux it won't be able to install Nimbe for CentOS and currently the only option is using docker or VM.

$ rpm -qi openssl
Name : openssl
Epoch : 1
Version : 3.0.1
Release : 47.el9_1
Architecture: x86_64
